8.5.16 Patapsco River Watershed Cleanup at Daniel's Dam

Patapsco Heritage Greenway sponsored a watershed cleanup along a section of the Patapsco River in partnership with UMBC in Ellicott City on Friday, August 5, 2016. This section of the Pataspco River is just above and below Daniels Dam and has a wide path surrounded by thick woods and vegation. The day wasn't too hot with temps in the 80's and a cloudy sky. Around 50 volunteers from UMBC helped remove 375 pounds of trash and junk from this area of the Patapsco River.

The items we removed were primarily picnic trash like paper plates, disposable cups, beer bottles, dirty diapers, and water melon rinds. We also found some flip flops and a pair of Nike shoes.

Special thanks to Laila and her three assistants for helping to organize the event and make it successful.

Thanks to our PHG Stream Team members Pete McCallum and Justin Carlisle who came out to help.

Great work and again, a big thank you to all our volunteers for a job well done!

P.S. We want to acknowledge and also thank the following organizations who helped fund this event, without their financial support would not have been possible: Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection & Sustainability, R.E.I. and B.G.E.
