10.25.14 River Cleanup in Patapsco State Park near Lost Lake off Glen Arney Road
The Patapsco Heritage Greenway sponsored a Watershed Clean Up on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the Avalon Area from Gun road to the Swinging Bridge of Patapsco Valley State Park.
Thirty eight volunteers, including 10 young people, collected 15 bags of trash and waste amounting to 1,220 pounds! Besides the normal bottles, cans and plastic bags we found, some of the interesting items found were: tires, part of a truck trailer, large fabric piece, scrap metal pieces, beer cans, part of a train track, athletic shorts, pieces of glass, underwear, wool blanket, grill, trash can lid, license plate, 1/2 of a steel rusted industrail barrel, ketchup packet, beer box, Clifford Frisbee, paint roller, piece of cloth, piece of a traffic cone, string of Christmas lights, PVC pipe, tractor tire, boards, tank from some appliance, tractor trailer door, canvas bag, t-shirts, sweatpants, rag, steel door frame from box car, 2 flower pots, pieces of a shirt, corncob, gigantic slab of styrofoam, broken pottery, railroad tye, unidentifable fiberglass board, used lumber, sink, fishing rod, 5 pairs of flip flops, 35 beer bottles, wet t-shirts, freezer door, part of a dryer, Coca cola bottle, Fireball shots whiskey bottle, half of a cooler, lottery ticket, 4 sandbags, 8 foot piece of 2 x 4 lumber, recycling waste basket, car inner tube, embedded blanket, ribbon, "poopy" diapers, Corona bottles with top on but no beer, sandals, swim t-shirts, submerged cement pipe, hub cap, cable attached to metal rod, kitchen sink, garden hose.
Groups participating in this very successful clean up include PHG, CCBC, HCC, Scout Troop 306,troop 2302, U.S. Navy,Archbishop Spalding, Catonsville High School, Reservoir High, Mead High, Mr. Hebron, and Catonsville Middle.
